To the Cloud!

Alienwebshop is excited to announce our move to the cloud!

In April 2012, after six years in our current hosting facility in Cambridge, Massachusetts, we'll be migrating all services into the cloud.  This month, we'll also be discontinuing our co-location service offering, soon to be replaced by a new virtual server offering.

What does this mean for you?

You will continue to get the same great hosting service, with increased reliability and scalability.  In fact, we'll be expanding to add a suite of new services, increasing quotas and generally improving services all around.

There area a few important changes you need to be aware of:
  • Hostnames and IP addresses of our hosting servers will change.  This will not impact how people access your website, but it will impact the address you see in the URL bar when you're accessing the cPanel interface for your account.
  • If you are handling your own DNS, you will need to update the A records for your website, ftp sites and email.
  • Operating systems are changing from FreeBSD to CentOS.  This will not affect most users.
  • If you have compiled your own software, it will need to be recompiled for linux.
  • SSH host keys will change, so you will have to accept the new keys.
Our secure billing system, ClientExec, has already been migrated to one of our new cloud servers.  All services will be migrated before April 30th, 2012.
